Three people remain hospitalized in critical condition following a serious two-vehicle crash Friday night on Route 22 West in Union Township that led to the arrest of a 17-year-old driver suspected of driving while intoxicated.

According to information released by the Union Police Department, officers responded to the crash at approximately 10:52 p.m. on October 16, near 2446 Route 22.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a white 2015 Honda Accord, carrying six occupants, was exiting the Union Plaza Shopping Center when it was struck on the driver’s side by a gray 2021 GMC Acadia traveling westbound.
Police said the Honda was occupied by four juveniles and two 18-year-olds.
Three occupants of the Honda were rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where they remain in critical condition.
The remaining three Honda occupants and the driver of the GMC sustained injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening.
Police arrested the 17-year-old driver of the Honda at the scene on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
The collision forced authorities to shut down Route 22 West until approximately 2 a.m. Saturday.
