Threat Evacuates British Airline Plane at EWR

Newark

Authorities are investigating a reported bomb threat against a flight that arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport this afternoon from London.

According to Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo, the British Airways flight that arrived in Newark from London at approximately 1 p.m. was diverted away from the main terminals as authorities swept the plane as a result of a threat.

Aboard the plane were a total of 206 passengers and 13 crew Pentangelo said.

According to unconfirmed reports, an unidentified individual contacted officials from an airport pay phone to report some sort of explosive on that British Airways flight.

Update: As of 4:30 p.m. officials have confirmed that the threat was unfounded. A screening of passengers and bags as well as a search of the plane with the assistance of bomb-sniffing dogs was performed and no threat or bomb was found.
