A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle that was driven by a suspect wanted for a felony eluding in Belleville on Sunday evening.

According to a statement released by Belleville Police, officers initially tried to stop a Silver 2016 Jeep Cherokee near the intersection of Bridge and Mill streets at approximately 7:56 p.m. after a license plate check indicated that the vehicle was wanted for a felony.

Police say the motorcyclist, 27-year-old Christopher Roman of Newark, refused to stop and led authorities on a pursuit that spanned several blocks before he struck a 14-year-old bicyclist at the intersection of Summer and Montclair avenues police said.

According to police, the teenage girl was transported to an area hospital where she suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police say Roman continued to speed from the scene and remains at-large but will be charged with aggravated assault and eluding when he is located.
