Teenage Boy Among Three Injured in Shooting in Newark’s South Ward

Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that injured three victims in a section of Newark's South Ward Thursday night.

According to a preliminary investigation, residents in the 100 block of Scheerer Avenue frantically dialed 911 after they heard multiple rounds of gunfire rang out in the area just before 8:05 p.m.

Newark South Ward officers arrived at the scene and found three victims suffering bullet wounds at that location.

Police say one of the victims, a boy around the age of 17-year-old, was found upon their arrival.

The most seriously injured of the victims suffered a bullet wound in the stomach while the other two males were struck in the leg and arm.

According to police, all of the injured were taken to University Hospital for treatment and no fatalities were immediately reported.

Police say while officers canvassed the neighborhood, they found an unoccupied car struck by bullets.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
