Teen Struck by Gunfire in Newark

Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that left a boy injured overnight in the city.

Reports of shots fired sent police to the 400 block of South 17 Street at around 11 p.m. where units arrived at the scene to find a teenage boy struck by gunfire at that location.

EMS transported the boy to University Hospital in a conscious and alert state while police officers canvassed the 600 block of 15th Avenue for shell casings and other evidence.

Newark Police detectives are actively investigating a motive for the shooting.

There were no other injuries reported.
