Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella has announced the arrest of 32-year-old Mr. Teddy Mejia of Teaneck on charges of vehicular homicide.

This arrest comes as the result of a comprehensive investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the guidance of Chief Jason Love.

Officials said the incident happened on Saturday, October 21, around 2:08 a.m., when the Teaneck Police Department received a distressing 911 call reporting a single motor vehicle accident on Teaneck Road near Bilton Street.

Upon arrival, responding officers discovered a 2021 BMW M850i, driven by Mejia, had veered off the roadway, striking a tree before overturning.

Mejia was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment of injuries, while tragically, two male passengers, who remain unidentified at this time, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Suspicions arose that Mejia had been operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol, leading to his subsequent arrest.

During the apprehension, authorities also discovered a suspected controlled, dangerous substance in his possession.

As a result of the investigation, Mejia now faces two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, and third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Additionally, he was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and failure to maintain a lane.

Mejia received these charges while at Hackensack University Medical Center and, following his release, will be remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

Prosecutor Musella emphasizes that these charges are mere accusations, and Mejia is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
