Suspicious Device on Utility Pole in Lakewood Deemed Inert

In a joint statement today, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Lakewood Township Police Chief Gregory Meyer disclosed an incident that occurred today. 

At approximately 7:45 a.m., officers from the Lakewood Township Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of 4th Avenue and Forest Avenue following a report of a suspicious item affixed to a utility pole.

The New Jersey State Police Bomb Disposal Unit was promptly alerted and dispatched to secure the device. Following a thorough assessment, it was determined that the device was inert and nonexplosive, reassuring the public that there was no imminent danger.

Prosecutor Billhimer emphasized, "There is no danger to the public, and this incident remains an active and ongoing investigation."
