A ShotSpotter activation in a Newark Central Ward community had police investigating a crime scene after locating evidence that a shooting occurred on one of its streets overnight.
It happened at approximately 12:40 a.m. when the detection device alerted Newark Police of just under a dozen rounds of gunfire that rang out in the teens block of Muhammad Ali Avenue.
Police responded to the area and found multiple shell casings, but after a further search of the area, they did not find any victims according to reports.
Police activity in the vicinity of Spruce and Quitman street had officers reportedly locate occupants of a vehicle who reported being shot at while driving in the area.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
