Newark Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man wanted in connection with a cellphone robbery that occurred in the city earlier this year.
According to information released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., the incident occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. on May 12, 2026, in the 200 block of Central Avenue.
Police said the victim had stepped outside her apartment to throw out trash when she was approached by a man who allegedly took her cellphone.
Authorities described the suspect as approximately 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly wearing a gray jacket, white T-shirt, white belt, light blue ripped jeans and a blue-and-white bandana.
Newark Police have released an image of the suspect as investigators work to determine his identity.
Director Miranda is urging anyone who recognizes the man or has information that could assist investigators to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS.
