Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital on Monday afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the Clara Maass Hospital after a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the back was dropped off at the hospital by private vehicle before 3:30 p.m.
Reports say Belleville Police officers detained the driver of the vehicle that dropped the victim off at the hospital.
Police checked the 900 block of Franklin Avenue where they reportedly located assault rifle shell casings at that location.
The extent of the victim's injuries have not been released.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
