Stray Bullets Strike House in Newark

Residents in a Newark South Ward community were awakened by the sounds gunfire that erupted in their neighborhood on Sunday morning.

Reports of shots fired sent police to the vicinity of 836 Sout 19th Street at approximately 12:45 a.m.

Several police units arrived at the scene and found evidence that shooting occurred but officers searching the area were not able to find victims. According to reports.

Police recovered about a half dozen shell casings and the door of a house struck by bullets during their search according to residents who contacted RLS Metro Breaking News.

One of the bullets entered the hallway of the residence and struck a wall.

"I can't go outside to see if any of my family members are injured because bullets struck my door and house," a longtime resident of South 19th Street said.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

There were no arrests immediately reported.
