State of Emergency Declared for Howell, Brick Following Heavy Rain

Howell Township Brick Township

Authorities today declared a State of Emergency in Brick and Howell following heavy rain and flooding across the area.

Officials say the morning storms caused extensive flooding throughout the township which has resulted in over 100 evacuations by Police, EMS and Fire Departments in the Green Briar I Community.

Chief Riccio is coordinating with the Office of Emergency Management as well as the Red Cross to assist people displaced from their homes.

Officials say, among the many rescues was a medical emergency involving a bariatric patient at the Winding Brook development on Rt. 547.

The first officer on scene radioed that the location was inaccessible by patrol vehicle and ambulance. The officer and medical personnel from police EMS subsequently carried the equipment through the water to the residence.

According to authorities, the patient was eventually transported via a water rescue truck and transferred to a bariatric-equipped police rig.

Citizens through the State of Emergency, were asked to remain off of the roads and remain home as more severe storms are expected this afternoon and early evening.

The local State of Emergency for the Township of Howell has ultimately been lifted as of 5 p.m.
