Single-Vehicle Crash Kills Driver in Jackson Twp.

The Jackson Township Police Department is currently investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed the driver Tuesday morning.

According to authorities, at approximately 9:16 a.m., officers responded to the area of 186 West Veterans Highway for a report of a motor vehicle crash. The vehicle reportedly went off the southern side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Upon arrival, officers found the driver inside the vehicle, unresponsive. Officers, along with emergency personnel from the Whitesville Fire Department, Cassville Fire Department, Quality Medical Unit, and Monoc Paramedic Unit, extricated the driver and transported him to the Monmouth Medical Centers Southern Campus, where he was pronounced dead by the emergency room doctor.

Initial investigation revealed that the driver was traveling westbound on West Veterans Highway when for unknown reasons crossed over the center line entering the eastbound lane. The vehicle continued across the eastbound lane, ran off the southern side of the roadway, and entered a wooded area where it struck a tree and was brought to rest.

At this time, the crash remains under investigation by Officer Lasko and Sergeant Vidalis of the Traffic Safety Unit.
