ShotSpotter Device Detects Over a Dozen Rounds of Gunfire in Newark's Central Ward; Injuries

Police reported injuries in a shots-fired incident on a street in Newark's Central Ward on Sunday evening. 

According to police, at approximately 6:45 p.m.,  a gunman fired about 19 rounds of bullets in the direction of a male near 400 Bergen Street.

Police said when officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim suffering a bullet wound in his leg at that location, but fortunately, no others were injured.

The unidentified injured male was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

Officers set up a crime scene where they collected shell casings and searched for a suspect, but no arrests were reported.

The motive for the attack is under investigation.
