ShotSpotter Device Detects Gunfire in Newark's South Ward; Man Shot

Police reported injuries in a shots-fired incident in Newark's South Ward Saturday night. 

It happed shortly before 11:40 p.m. near 128 Scheerer Avenue.  

A ShotSpotter device alerted police of several gunshot blasts in the neighborhood. 

When officers arrived, they found shell casings and a man shot at that location.  

The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment, where the extent of his injuries could not be confirmed. 

No other victims were found, according to reports. 

The motive for the shooting has not been released by police and there were no arrests reported.
