ShotSpotter Device Alerts Police of Gunfire on South 12th Street in Newark

Police officials in Newark are investigating a shots-fired incident that erupted in a section of the city Sunday morning.

A ShotSpotter device activated and alerted police of several rounds of gunfire in the 200 block of South 12th Street around 5:30 a.m. 

Cops arrived at the scene and found about three shell casings, but officers canvassing the area did not locate any victims. 

The suspect fled the scene and remained at large.
