ShotSpotter Device Alerts Newark Police to South Ward Shooting

Newark Police are acknowledging the role of a ShotSpotter device in bringing to their attention a shooting incident in the city's South Ward late Friday night.AdThe gunfire was detected around 11:10 p.m. near 713 Frelinghuysen Avenue, leading officers to the scene.

Upon arrival, police discovered multiple shell casings. A thorough search of the surrounding area was conducted, yet, fortunately, no victims were found.

The Newark Shooting Response Team has been called in to assist with the ongoing investigation into the incident.

The suspect responsible for the shooting managed to escape and is currently at large.AdAuthorities are continuing their efforts to identify and locate the individual involved.

The use of ShotSpotter technology, which can instantly notify police of gunshots, proved crucial in swiftly responding to this incident.

Newark Police are now appealing to the public for any information that may help apprehend the suspect and ensure the community's safety.
