By: Tracie Carter Newark authorities are crediting the city's ShotSpotter gunshot detection system for swiftly alerting them to a shooting incident that took place early Monday morning in the North Ward. Responding officers arrived at the scene and discovered several shell casings scattered on the ground. The Newark Police Shooting Response Team was called in to assist with the investigation, which remains active and ongoing. At this time, there have been no reported injuries or arrests, and the suspect is still at large. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Newark Police Department as they continue to investigate the motive behind the shooting.According to preliminary reports, the alert was triggered around 2:15 a.m. in the vicinity of 301 Mt. Pleasant Avenue after a gunman fired multiple rounds at an unknown target.
