Gunfire erupted in a Newark South Ward neighborhood Saturday afternoon, leaving a parked vehicle damaged but no reported injuries.

Police were alerted to the shooting around 3:30 p.m. after a ShotSpotterdevice detected gunfire in the 80s block of Custer Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located multiple shell casings. A canvass of the surrounding neighborhood was conducted, but no victims were found.

Authorities confirmed that a vehicle parked in the area was struck by gunfire.
