School officials placed two schools on a lockdown status after gunfire rang out Wednesday afternoon in Newark's Central Ward.
Reports of shots fired that erupted on Lincoln Place, shortly before 1:30 p.m., sent police to the scene where officers found evidence that a shooting had occurred.
School officials at the Samuel L. Berliner and Quitman Community School sheltered-in-place under police watch as authorities searched the area.
According to Newark Police officials, there were no injured victims found as a result of the shooting and at no time was any of the school's staff or students in harm's way.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
There were no arrests reported.
