Shootings in Newark's North, South Wards Under Investigation

Police are on the search for several suspects who are responsible for firing off several rounds in a neighborhood in Newark's South Ward earlier this afternoon.

Reports of shots fired sent police to the 200 block of Badger Avenue at around 12:30 p.m. where responding officers found evidence of a shooting at that location.

A house was struck by several rounds of gunfire and a weapon was recovered near the house according to reports.

A silver colored Mustang that was occupied by as many as three suspects was observed fleeing the area.

There were no injuries immediately reported.

Over in the city's North Ward, police responded to the area of Broad Street and 3rd Avenue at around 2 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired.

Arriving officers located evidence of a shooting according to authorities.

One person was admitted to University Hospital suffering a gunshot injury.

Newark police officials said the shooting was in it's early stages of the investigation and the victim's injuries are not life threatening.

Police also found bullet projectiles inside an apartment in the 90's block of Broad Street.

"Detectives are actively following leads and and with information are urged to contact our toll-free hotlines 1-877-NWK-GUNS" police said.

Both shootings are under investigation.
