Police in Newark are continuing to investigate a shooting that sent a person to the hospital in Newark's West Ward on Friday night.
According to preliminary reports, in the third shooting that occurred in the Vailsburgh section of the city in just over 24-hours, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 40's block of Chelsea Avenue at approximately 8:20 p.m.
Several police units arriving at the scene taped off the area after they found a person suffering a gunshot wound at that location.
EMS transported the victim to University Hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries according to reports.
Police searched the area after learning that a possible suspect remained in the neighborhood, but it is not clear if officers ever apprehended the suspect.
The shooting marked the third shooting in the upper western portion of the city in several hours.
There were no arrest or fatalities reported in any of the shootings. The investigation remains active and ongoing
