Police searched a neighborhood in the city's South Wad after a reported shooting injured a man sometime overnight.
Officials at the University Hospital contacted authorities when the victim of an apparent gunshot injury arrived to the hospital by private vehicle.
The victim entered the emergency department shortly before 4 a.m. suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound according to reports.
The incident is being investigated by The Newark Police Department.
