Shooting Suspect Fires Two Dozen Shots in Newark Neighborhood; Victim Struck

Police in Newark are on the search for the suspect who pulled a weapon and fired over two dozen rounds of bullets on a Newark street then led police on a pursuit through several cities on Thursday night.

Police responded to reports of shots fired -from a ShotSpotter activation- that rang out in the vicinity of 202 Fairmount Avenue at approximately 8:30 p.m. sending police to the scene where they found evidence that a shooting occurred but after a search of the area, officers did not locate any injured victims.

While investgiating at the scene, officers were notified by University Hospital officials of a gunshot victim that arrived in a white vehicle according to reports.

Witnesses informed police that a newer model black Mercedes Benz Class C with a possible NJ license plate number "L26-KAK" was observed fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting.

Police spotted the vehicle and began to follow and order the driver to stop. Authorities say the driver ignored officers and led police in a chased that touched off parts of Bloomfield and last seen in East orange according to reports.

The victim's injuries were only reported as non-life threatening.

The incident remains under investigation by the Newark Police department.
