Shooting Outside South Ward Restaurant Leaves One Dead, Another Seriously Wounded Overnight in Newark

Newark

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating a shooting that occurred in the city's South Ward that left one person fatally wounded and the another in serious condition overnight.

Police rushed to the 300 block of Elizabeth Ave.  shortly before 2 a.m.
after receiving reports of shots fired. When police arrived on the scene, two male victims in the parking lot of the Jersey Fried Chicken shot and seriously injured.

One of the men suffered a gunshot wound to the head and reportedly died at the scene while the other victim was rushed to University Hospital where he suffered several non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Authorities combed the area for possible evidence and suspects throughout the morning.

This was the second murder that had occurred in the city in less than 5 hours. An earlier shooting in the 50's block of Grafton Ave. had an 18-year-old man fatally injured.

Both homicides are being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
