Shooting in Newark's West Ward Leaves One Fatally Injured

A violent shooting in a residential neighborhood in the city's West Ward left one person shot and fatally injured. 

Police and EMS rushed to the 100 block of  Norman Road at around 8 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found a male victim unconscious and unresponsive after suffering gunshot wounds to the face and back. Residents that live  close by said that they heard about 4-5 loud pops then scores first responders flooded the area.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

An immediate search of the area reportedly  had authorities looking for a 5'8" black male wearing a grey shirt and hat that fled in the direction of Ellery Ave. 

Homicide Investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the fatal shooting.
