Shooting Leaves Man Seriously Injured in Newark's South Ward

A shooting that occurred in Newark's South Ward has police searching for a gunman while investigators attempt to determine the motive for the shooting.

According to preliminary reports, just under a dozen rounds of gunfire erupted in the vicinity of Johnson and Clinton avenues at approximately 7:40 p.m. setting off a ShotsSpotter activation that notified police in the city's 5th Precinct.

Units rushed to the scene where they found a male victim suffering gunshot wounds at that location.

EMS transported the victim to University Hospital where doctors began treating the man for his injuries according to report.

A female was treated by EMS for minor injuries but was not struck by gunfire according to police.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the shooting at remains at-large.
