Shooting Leaves Male Critical in Newark's South Ward

A man found suffering multiple gunshot wounds in Newark’s South Ward has police investigating.

The incident happened just before noon in the vicinity of 15 Edwin Place where police responded to reports of shots fired at that location.

Upon officer’s arrival, the severely injured victim according to authorities.

EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital where police say the victim remains in critical but stable condition.

Police set up a crime scene that stretched several blocks in an effort to locate evidence to support a motive for the shooting.

Police believe two black males sped away from the scene in a grey Toyota Camry that was found in the vicinity of Lyons Avenue and Leslie Street a short time later.

Detectives from The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are assisting in the investigation.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
