EMS transported a conscious and alert victim suffering a gunshot wound to University Hospital late last night.
Gunfire erupted shortly before midnight in the area of Court Street and Broome Street in the city's Central Ward sending police to the scene where they found the victim struck in the groin by gunfire.
The victim's injury was not reported to life threatening.
An investigation is underway into the motive for the shooting by Newark Police.
