Shooting in Franklin Township Under Investigation

Franklin Township (Somerset)

Somerset County authorities announced an investigation into gunshots fired in Baier Avenue and Phillips Road in the evening hours of Wednesday  Franklin Township.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on April 21, 2021, at approximately 11:01 p.m., Franklin Township Police officers responded to the area of Baier Avenue and Phillips Road for a 9-1-1 call of shots fired.

Upon arrival, Franklin Township Police Officers met with an individual, whom authorities identified as a Somerset adult male resident, who stated that while driving north on Phillips Road toward Baier Avenue, he heard multiple “pops,” which he initially thought were fireworks.

After hearing something strike his vehicle, which an adult male Somerset resident also occupied, he realized that it was gunshots.

Detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department responded to conduct an investigation.

Officials said detectives observed damage to the vehicle, which they determined to be caused by a gunshot.  No injuries were reported to be sustained. A canvass of the area resulted in the location of twenty-seven shell casings.

Investigators are attempting to establish a motive for the shooting and it is undetermined if the victims in the vehicle were the intended targets.
