Police in Elizabeth are on the scene of a shooting with one person dead in the city this afternoon.
According to preliminary reports from city officials, police were called to East Jersey Street near 4th Street at around 4:25 p.m. for a domestic incident with a female assaulted at that location.
Upon arrival to the scene, officers spotted an armed man who reportedly pointed the weapon at himself then pulled the trigger.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene officials said.
At least one female was transported to an area hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries from the assault.
There were no injuries to police officers.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
