Police in Newark are looking into the motive behind a shooting incident in the city's South Ward Wednesday morning.
It happened around 1:45 a.m. near 521 Elizabeth Avenue.
Police said gunfire rang out in the South Ward neighborhood, sending officers to the scene to investigate. When units arrived, they found several shell casings, but a search of the area indicated no victims.
According to police, a ShotSpotter device activated in the area and the suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
The incident remains under investigation.
