Shooting on Chancellor Avenue in Newark Under Investigation

Police in Newark are investigating an early afternoon shooting in the South Ward that injured a person. 

Reports say gunfire rang out near the intersection of Schley and Chancellor Avenue around 2:24 p.m., prompting a police investigation. 

Officers arrived and assisted the victim, who was struck by gunfire. 

Police searched for additional victims in their area, but no other injuries were reported. A dark-colored vehicle fled the scene with the shooters inside.

Newark authorities are also investigating a second shooting that happened around 7:30 a.m. in the South Ward.

In this incident, a gunman fired multiple rounds on Maple Avenue before fleeing the scene. Residents in both communities say drug dealing and loitering are on the rise. 

No injuries were reported after police checked the neighborhood.
