Several Arrested for Weapons Possession in Newark

Newark Police have arrested the following for possession of weapons in the city: 

The below individuals were arrested on August 3:

  • 15-year-old male, of Newark, at 100 block of Shephard Avenue. Charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon by a minor, and possession of prohibited weapons (hollow point ammunition and large capacity magazine).
  • Andrea Motley, 34, of Newark, at Cabinet Street near Bergen Street. Charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and criminal mischief.
  • Jihad L. Jones, 24, of Newark, at 400 block of Clinton Avenue. Charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of prohibited weapons (hollow point ammunition and large capacity magazine), obstruction of the administration of the law, and resisting arrest.

The below individuals were arrested on August 4:

  • Anthony Cook, 29, of Newark, at 900 block of 18th Avenue. Charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense, CDS possession, CDS distribution, and conspiracy.
  • Raddisha Gordon, 28, of Newark, at 900 block of 18th Avenue. Charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, CDS possession, and CDS distribution.
  • James K. Williams, 25, of Newark, at 900 block of 18th Avenue. Charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, CDS possession, and conspiracy.
  • Anthony P. Mitchell, 26, of Newark, at N. 14th Street near 7th Avenue. Charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon (hollow point ammunition), obstruction of the administration of the law, resisting arrest, and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession.

The below individual was arrested on August 5:

  • 17-year-old male, of Newark, at 800 block of S. 15th Street. Charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon by a minor.

The below individuals were arrested on August 6:

  • Rahzeem S. King, 23, of Newark, at 400 block of S. 16th Street. Charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and obstruction of the administration of the law.
  • Maurice Green, 28, of Newark, at 100 block of Isabella Avenue. Charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of prohibited weapons (large capacity magazine), CDS possession, and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession.
  • Richard Waters, 32, of Irvington, at Hayes Street and 15th Avenue. Charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of prohibited weapons (hollow point ammunition), CDS possession, and CDS distribution. 

There is no word on how many of these weapons are connected to homcides in the city. 

These charges are merely accusations.

Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
