EMS rushed one person to University Hospital in Newark after a car struck the victim on Route 1&9 in Elizabeth overnight.
According to preliminary reports, the incident happened at around 11 p.m. sending emergency responders to the vicinity of Grier Avenue and Route 1&9 south for reports of an injured person.
Crews arriving at the scene found the victim lying on the ground after a car struck them causing severe injuries reports said.
Detectives from The Elizabeth Police Department are handling the investigation at this time.
There were no immediate reports of arrests.
