Police have a crime scene established in the area of Prospect Street at Jennifer Lane as authorities investigate the cause of a pedestrian strike at that location.
First responders rushed to the scene shortly before 5:45 p.m. on reports of a pedestrian suffering injuries after being struck by a vehicle.
Arriving units located the male victim laying on the ground unconscious, suffering apparent trauma according to reports.
Residents on the street told RLS Metro Breaking News that the sound was extremely loud and that they did not hear brakes screeching during the incident.
"There was just a loud boom that had me jump to the window where I saw the victim laying on the ground" a nearby resident said.
The man was transported to the hospital where the extent of his injuries were only reported to be serious at this time.
The Maplewood Police Department are currently handling the investigation.
