EMS rushed a male victim who they found suffered gunshot wounds to University Hospital after a shooting that erupted in Newark's Central Ward overnight.
Police officers rushed to the 100 block of Garside Street after receiving reports of shots fired and a person down shortly before 12:30 a.m.
Units arrived at the scene to find the victim suffering serious injuries after a gunman fired several rounds in the area, striking the victim.
According to preliminary reports, one of the bullets struck the victim in the back.
Police are looking for a male suspect -possibly Hispanic- who fled the scene in a dark older model vehicle.
The incident remains under investigation.
