Separate Overnight Shootings Under Investigation in Newark

Police in Newark are investigating two shootings that sent victims to the hospital overnight in Newark.

According to preliminary reports, reports of shots fired rang out in the West Ward community of West End and South Orange avenues just after 8 p.m.

Several police officers arrived at the scene to find a male victim suffering a gunshot wound at that location.

EMS transported the victim to University Hospital in Newark where the extent of his injury could not immediately be confirmed.

In another incident, police responded to a shooting that occurred at around 11 p.m. in the 200 block of North 11th Street where officers arrived to find evidence that a shooting happened and a male suffering a gunshot wound to the leg according to reports.

The victim was transported to the hospital where his injury was not reported as life-threatening reports said.

Both shootings incidents remain under investigation by Newark Police.
