Separate Shootings Under Investigation in Newark; Injuries

Separate overnight shooting that occurred in Newark's West and South wards has police searching for the suspects responsible for the incidents.

According to preliminary reports, police responded to the vicinity of South Orange and Speedway avenues just before 7:30 p.m. to investigate reports of shots fired.

Several police officers arrived at the scene to find a male victim suffering injuries after being shot at that location.

The victim was transported to University Hospital where he remains in stable condition according to reports.

Police set up a crime scene in the area where they recovered shell casings and other evidence.

In a separate incident, police in Newark are on the search for a gunman who reportedly road to the vicinity of Avon Avenue and South 16th Street on a dirt bike then fired off multiple shots from a gun that struck a man shortly before 8:30 p.m.

Police arrived at the scene and requested EMS on a rush after finding the male victim struck several times according to reports.

EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital where doctors treated the victim for severe injuries.

There were no arrests reported as police work to determine the motive for the shooting.

Police are also looking into a shots fired incident that occurred in the 300 block of South Orange Avenue where a suspect fired off more than a half dozen rounds that caused property damage near the West Side High School.

A vehicle was damaged during the incident, but there were no injuries immediately reported.
