Authorities are investigating a late-night shooting in Newark’s Central Ward that left one man critically injured in what marked the second of three separate shootings reported across the city within a 24-hour period.

According to preliminary information, Newark Police were dispatched to the area of 456 Muhammad Ali Avenue on Friday night after a ShotSpotter device detected multiple rounds of gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive male suffering from severe gunshot injuries. Responders immediately administered CPR at the scene before the victim was rushed for emergency medical treatment.
As of 4:30 a.m. Saturday, officials confirmed only that his condition remained “severe.”
The Newark Shooting Response Team has joined other detectives in the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
No arrests have been reported, and the motive for the shooting has not yet been determined.

The incident took place hours after a 23-year-old man was fatally shot inside a car in Newark’s West Ward, part of a string of violent incidents that have shaken some city residents.
