Second Shooting on Newark South Ward Street in Less Than a Week Under Investigation

Newark

An overnight shots fired incident that erupted on a Newark South Ward block has police searching for a suspect.

The incident marks the second shooting that occurred since Friday in the 100 block of Dewey Street just before midnight.

Police arrived at the scene and conducted a search for injured victims but did not report any injuries.

Police say a black male suspect, who wore basketball shorts, was observed running from the scene.

On Friday, police say EMS transported a male to the hospital after gunfire struck him in the chest on Dewey Street. The suspect ran from the scene and remain at-large.

It is not clear if the incidents are related at this time.

The investigation into both shootings is active and ongoing.
