Firefighters in Passaic battled a second-alarm fire that broke out inside a three-story attached building Saturday evening.
Crews were dispatched to 42 Monroe Street shortly before 7 p.m. after reports of a working fire on the second floor and possible occupants trapped inside.
Firefighters stretched lines into the building while conducting searches throughout the structure. One person was removed from a third-floor apartment as crews brought the main body of the fire under control.

Officials reported that two people were evaluated by EMS for minor injuries, while a third patient required advanced life support evaluation.
The fire was placed under control shortly after 7 p.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
