The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been notified of an incident where a body was found in a dumpster at a location in Belleville late Tuesday night.
According to a preliminary statement, police were called to the rear of a liquor store and spa located just off the complex of the old A&P and current SuperFresh Food market (19 Belleville Avenue) to investigate reports of suspicious activities at approximately 10:15 p.m.
Units arrived at the scene immediately set up a crime scene after they found an unconscious and unresponsive person at the dumpster, according to reports.
The individual was pronounced dead by medical professionals.
At 5:33 a.m., The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office told RLS Metro Morning Crew they could confirm that the Essex County Homicide Task Force is investigating the incident in the 700 block of Belleville Avenue in Belleville.
”One male found dead, but it is early in the investigation and no further information is available at this time,” officials said.
Authorities have not released the cause of death or the identity of the person at this time.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
