Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Carol “Carl” Mattis, a 70-year-old man who has been reported missing from East Orange.
According to information released by law enforcement officials, Mattis was last seen on July 19, 2025, in East Orange.
Investigators later discovered his vehicle abandoned, with its license plates removed, raising concern about the circumstances of his disappearance.
Mattis is described as a Black male, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds, with a dark complexion, short black hair, and brown eyes. He wears glasses.
Authorities have classified the case as involuntary, and the ongoing investigation remains active.
Family, friends, and community members are deeply concerned for his safety and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Anyone who may have seen Carol “Carl” Mattis or who has information about his whereabouts is encouraged to contact local law enforcement immediately.
