Authorities are investigating a shooting that left one person seriously injured Saturday evening in Paterson.
According to preliminary information, gunfire erupted just before 7 p.m. in the 300 block of Governor Street, prompting a police response to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers located an unidentified victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
The injured individual was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment. Officials have not released the victim’s condition.
Detectives canvassing the area recovered approximately five shell casings as part of the investigation.
Authorities later determined that the suspect was reportedly operating a scooter at the time of the shooting.
A crashed, unoccupied scooter was subsequently discovered near Bridge Street and Memorial Drive. However, investigators have not confirmed whether that vehicle is connected to the incident.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear as the investigation continues.
