Bergen County

In response to nationwide concerns about school bus safety, officials are holding a special event this Monday focused on protecting students and raising awareness of key safety issues.
According to a report from TapInto Paramus, Congressman Josh Gottheimer will host a school bus safety press gathering in Paramus on Monday, February 9, with an open invitation to the public and parents to participate.

The event is positioned as a discussion on school bus passenger safety and comes amid ongoing conversations in New Jersey and across the United States about improving protections for students on their daily rides to and from school.

While details linking this event directly to U.S. Senator Cory Booker have not been publicly released in reporting so far, Gottheimer has been active in advocating for stronger bus safety measures at the federal level.

School bus safety has been a focus for many lawmakers following serious crashes in past years, including the 2018 Mount Olive school bus accident that injured dozens of students and educators.

Advocates at today’s gathering are expected to emphasize stronger background checks for drivers, enhanced safety training, and additional resources for school districts to better protect riders.

Officials say the Paramus event will spotlight the importance of federal, state, and community partnerships in reducing accidents and preventing injuries.
