Rutgers University Welcomes President Obama to its 250th Anniversary Commencement

Piscataway

As Rutger's University prepared for this year's very special commencement which marked the university's 250th anniversary, today the school received an even bigger reason to celebrate.

White House announced today announced that U.S. President Barack Obama will attend and be the commencement speaker of this year's graduation ceremony on May 15 at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway.

In the statement, White House spokesman Keith Maley refers Rutgers University as, " One of the oldest universities in the country with a long and distinguished history of advancing research and preparing students with the skills they need to succeed in the new economy."

According to the university, in 2013, Rutgers President Robert Barchi sent the president an invitation to speak to the graduating class.

According to school records, this appears to be the only time the school will have a sitting U.S. president speaking at its graduation.
