Route 22 Crash Fatally Injures Two in Scotch Plains

Scotch Plains

Union County Authorities are investigating a crash that left two people dead and one injured late last night in Scotch Plains.

First responders from several towns rushed to Route 22 and Westfield Road 9:45 p.m.  where a vehicle collided with a tree, heavily trapping at least three occupants inside. Police closed traffic on the highway in both directions until about 1:30 a.m.

A commuter, only identified by her initials L.E said she  drove  past the wreckage  saying,  "traffic is still being re routed. It looks crazy. Once I got off and made it to the other side, you could see the car which looked like a smashed one at the junk yard. My prayers are that they were able to rescue them and they'll be alright".

Authorities would not released the identity of the victims until next of kin has been notified.
