Roselle Park Restaurant Thief Captured on Surveillance Cameras Arrested

A 41-year-old Massachusetts man caught on surveillance camera burglarizing a Chinese restaurant has been arrested.

According to police, on October 25th, the Roselle Park Police Department was called to China Royal, located at 115 W. Westfield Avenue, for a report of a burglary.

Upon arrival, police learned that earlier that evening, someone broke into the business through a side entrance and stole the cash register which contained an undisclosed amount of cash.

A follow-up investigation was conducted, and evidence was recovered from the scene along with video surveillance, from several businesses in the area that showed that on October 24th at 1030 p.m., a white male with a bald head wearing a light colored sweatshirt, jeans and sneakers kick in the side entrance to the store.

Once inside he removed the register and concealed it inside his sweatshirt. He entered a dark-colored Ford Focus - driven by a female accomplice - and fled the area.

With the assistance of officers from Union Township, Woodbridge and New Jersey State Police the actor was positively identified in the video as Michael A. Rompa, 41 from Peabody, Massachusetts.

Police arrested Rompa on December 12th where he was formally charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief.

According to authorities, Rompa has been served with a warrant and remains lodged in the Union County Jail where he’s awaiting court proceedings on a prior arrest made in Union Township by the New Jersey State Police.
