Roselle Man Wanted in Connection with Union County Thefts, Burglaries, Armed Robbery Arrested in Elizabeth

Roselle Union Township (Union) Elizabeth

Police arrested a 47-year-old Roselle man following an investigation by the Union Police Department into a recent burglary at a local barbershop.

According to police, on November 10th, officers noticed a broken window at Union Family Barber, located at 1081 Stuyvesant Avenue, sometime around 1 a.m.

Upon further investigation, officers determined the alleged burglar cut himself when he entered the business and blood was found at the scene.

With the assistance of surveillance cameras from a neighboring business, officers recognized the suspect from a prior theft arrest and possibly the suspect in other recent crimes.

According to police, approximately an hour after the burglary, Officer Ryan Killimett observed a stolen car - reportedly stolen by a suspect who beat a woman over the head with a crow bar and took her purse at the Elizabeth train station - pass him on Morris Avenue but he was unable to catch up to the car.

Detectives determined the suspect caught on surveillance was the same individual wanted in the burglary, robbery, recent theft of cigarettes from the 7-11 on Morris Avenue, and matched the description of a burglar who broke into a Roselle Park business last month.

A collaboration by all departments lead to the recovery of the suspect vehicle in Elizabeth. Officials stated that after several hours the alleged suspect - later identified as David Caba, 47, from Roselle - came out to the car and he was arrested.

The vehicle was towed back to police headquarters for further investigation.

Detectives found the crow bar and other evidence connected to other crimes.

Detectives charged Caba with Burglary, Theft, Criminal Mischief to the Barber Shop, receiving stolen property (the stolen Honda that Officer Killimett initially saw), Shoplifting (cigarettes at the 7-11), burglary and theft (Roselle Park incidents) and armed robbery and the weapons possession ( for the Elizabeth crow bar robbery).

A judge ordered Caba to be held at the Union County Jail.
